Jan George Brechnitz, 79, of Travelers Rest, SC, formerly of Belleville, IL, born July 5, 1935, in Belleville, IL, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015, surrounded by his family at his home in Travelers Rest, SC.

Jan lived a remarkable and colorful life. He was a competitive athlete, an exceptional student, an influential investor and advisor, and a loving husband and father.  He graduated from Belleville West High School in 1953, serving as a key member of both the football and track teams. He continued his studies and his football career at Princeton University, graduating in 1957. He built a successful wealth management practice in Belleville, IL, serving his clients faithfully for over fifty years before retiring in 2007.  Jan had a deep appreciation and love for music, history, food, and wine.  He will be remembered for his character, his generosity, his love of life, and all the special times he shared with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Edith Catherine Brechnitz; and his parents, George and Edith, nee Carl, Brechnitz.

He is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Shirley Compton Brechnitz;
his son and daughter-in-law, K.C and Susan Brechnitz;
his three wonderful grandchildren, Mimi, Greta, and Larson Brechnitz;
his brother, Erik C. Brechnitz and wife Nancy;
and niece and nephews, Beth Brechnitz and husband Brian,
Chris Brechnitz, and Erik C. Brechnitz Jr.

Visitation: Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: After brief readings in celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Saturday, a funeral procession will leave from the funeral home for a graveside service at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
