Janet K. Schmidt, nee Boxdorfer, 56, of Belleville, IL, born September 19, 1959, in Chicago, IL, died Monday, November 30, 2015, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Mrs. Schmidt was currently an Alderwoman for Belleville Ward 2 and Precinct Committeeman for Belleville District 7.  She was a member of Four Winds Fellowship and a former board member of Metro East Pride. Janet served on the Board of Directors at the Center for Racial Harmony, Belleville, IL.

Janet was preceded in death by her father, Hubert G. Boxdorfer; and one brother, Mark Boxdorfer.

Surviving are her husband of 19 years, Ricky Gene Schmidt, whom she married on June 22, 1996;
two sons, Elijah (Tiffany) Schmidt of St. Louis, MO,
and Tyler (Carolyn) Abide of Lansing, MI;
one daughter, Wilhelmina Schmidt;
one granddaughter, Olive Louise Abide;
and her mother, Sylvia M. Boxdorfer, nee Lintner, of Caseyville, IL.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2015, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 3, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL

Janet will be greatly missed. I am so honored that I was able to be friends with such an amazing spirit. Janet know matter what made sure ypu knew you were important when you called. I am so thankful that she was able to perform my wedding this past October and was always behind me when I opened my coffeehouse almost two years ago.. I remember talking to Janet about everything and anything and the same for her to me. Then we would get busy and not be able to chat. It wouldn’t matter because it felt like no time would pass. I would tell people about my awesome friend Janet and how proud I was about her being elected Alderman! I feel such a void and I know so many others do as well.
