Jo Ann Landers was born on August 31, 1951 in St. Louis, MO. She was the daughter of Virginia Landers and James Edward Allred.

Jo Ann was educated in the East St. Louis public school system. She graduated from East Side High School in 1969. She went on to attend SIUC, but graduated from SIUE with a degree in Social Work. Jo Ann was very smart and went back to school and recieved a Masters degree in Computer Programming with emphisis in Deciphering and Decoding, from Webster University.

Jo Ann enjoyed a very active social life. She was one of the founding members of the Shangri-La social club in the 70’s. She also enjoyed a good game of cards and a game of Yahtzee. Jo Ann loved to cook and was an avid reader.

Jo Ann had a way of making everyone feel loved. She had a way of making everyone feel comfortable.  She never met a stranger. She would hold a conversation with anyone. She was very easy to talk to, no matter who they were.

Jo Ann loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Landers; her father, James Edward Allred; her brother, Charles Landers; and her nephew, Robert Landers Jr.

Jo Ann leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Shawn L. Carter;
her daughter, Antroinette Carter-Nunn;
her grandchildren, Robert M. Carter,  Ja’Karl Nunn, Jada Carter, Ja’Kobe Nunn, Dominique Carter, and Jayden Nunn;
her brother, Robert Landers Sr.;
her sister, Kathleen (Dave) Buttig;
her dear and special friends, Portia Kennel, Paula Hale and Adele Neal;
and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Friday, August 6, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, August 6, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. I wish I would have been able to meet her in person. Her emails were so wonderful and you could tell she had a great soul.

JoaAnn has been an extended member of our family for 52 years. Her ability to love and care for others, her sense of justice and service has been a gift to humankind.
