John was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grade School, Immaculata High School and Donnelly College, all in Leavenworth, KS. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an air man. After 9 years, through the Air Force, he returned to college and received his commission as a 2nd Lt. After 24 years in the service and 3 years in Viet Nam, he retired as a captain.
John was united in marriage May 6, 1992, to Barbara Jo. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2013.
Survivors include 3 step-children Betty J. Perry, Schamaka S. Bates, and Albert Bates, who all lovingly called him papa;
eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
John also leaves three siblings, James Jr., Mary and Nathaniel;
a host of nieces and nephews;
special cousins;
and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 12, 2016, at 9:30 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church, 711 North Fifth Street.
Interment will immediately follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
