Jack retired in 1990 as a U.S. Postal worker for the East St. Louis Post Office where he worked for 35 years. He also owned and operated Jack’s TV Repairs out of his home. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and enjoyed sharing stories about the excursions and trips he took with family and friends. Jack was also a licensed pilot and flew many hours in the Cessna that he owned. Jack was an active member of the First Christian Church of Belleville where he had a large, loving church family.
His biggest pride and joy was spending his time with his many family members and friends. You could always find him with a big, beautiful smile while enjoying the visits. Above all Jack was such a wonderful and loving son, father, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. He will be greatly missed by all.
Jack was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ira and Opal Latimer; his siblings, Roy Latimer, Doris Williams, George Latimer, Beverly Agnew, and Flaura Barcum; a son, John F. “Johnny” Latimer; a son-in-law, Mike Phelps; and a great-grandson, Mason Schmittling.
Surviving are his children, Susan Phelps, Kim (Dennis) Schmittling, and Ricky Latimer; three step-children, Lisa Worrell, Shawn Franklin and Jay Franklin; seven grandchildren, Brandy (Derek) Huber, Eric Schmittling, Sarah (Rick) Bills, Christina Schmittling, Cory (Siu) Latimer, Courtney Latimer, and Kirstie (Brandon) Beasley; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler (Becky) Huber, Mackenzie Huber, Gage Hallett, Riley Mehrmann, Reese Bills, Austin, Alyssa, and Mikayla Schmittling, and Nevaeh Miller; one great-great-grandson, Sebastian Latimer; and his many nieces and nephews.
