John L. Roach, Jr., 78, of Belleville, IL, born September 3, 1942, in Axtel, KY, died Monday, May 17, 2021, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.

Mr. Roach served in the United States Air Force with tours to Germany, Vietnam, and Korea. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at the St. Louis Post Office for 18 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Eva, nee Henning, Roach; a daughter, Heidi S. Roach; a son, Tommy Roach; and a sister, Bernie “Bunny” McDaniel.

He is survived by his loving wife, Doris, nee Friedrich, Roach, whom he married on July 1, 1964, in Speicher, Germany; a son, Mark (Elizabeth Harris) Roach; three grandchildren, Heidi (fiancé Brandon Schaefer) Roach, and Adriana and Jack Roach; four sisters, Libby (John) Popham, Pat (David) Thomason, Susie (Jim) Camp, and Helen (David) Hayes; four brothers, Danny (Beverly) Roach, Earl (Shirley) Roach, Greg (Rita) Roach, and Mark (Tonja) Roach; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, or to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2021, and from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL,

Funeral: Funeral procession will leave at 10:45 a.m. Monday, May 24, 2021, from George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, for an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. David Darin officiating.

Burial with military honors will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

Doris, We are all so sorry to hear of your loss. Kathy, my son Wayne, and myself were involved with the East HS German Club from 201 3-16 and sponsored a German boy "Bas" in 2016. We also helped you and John at the Oktoberfest 2015-16. He was a wonderful guy with such a warm smile. We will miss him und always remember him.
