CMSGT John Hugh Stroebel, USAF Retired, 92, of Tampa, FL, formerly of Hamilton, OH, born November 15, 1925, in Hamilton, OH, died Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Cedarhurst Senior Living, Shiloh, IL.

Chief Stroebel served 12 years in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War.  He then served 15 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, Retired Enlisted Association and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor J. Stock; his parents, John W. and Ethel, nee Woodruff, Stroebel; and a daughter, Mary T. Morton.

Surviving are his two sons, John W. (Deborah) Stroebel of Salem, OR, and Edward (Sandra) Stroebel of St. Petersburg, FL;
and a sister-in-law, Patricia Stock of Belleville, IL.
He was affectionately known as “Papa Cookies” by his grandchildren, Johnny, Zach, Ashley, Jennifer, Alayna, Jessica and Ethan;
and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018 at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Wayne Weller officiating.

Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.

I met John and his family while living in Aguadilla PR. He was stationed at Ramey AFB. My dad was part of the Knight of Columbus. My parents became best friends with the Stroebel's. I escorted Mary to several formal events representing the KC. Dawna & I want to extress my condolenses to John's family. For me it is an end to an era a piece of histroy and good memories. He is at with his loved ones an my parents that passed many years ago. Sincerely, Al

We have fond memories of all our visits and conversations with you and him as well as with your grandparents, John and Ethel If you are ever in the vicinity of Louisville, please give us a call.
