Mr. Gilmer retired as an operating engineer with Local 520, Granite City, IL. He was a member of St. Peter’s Cathedral Parish, Belleville, IL, and Belleville-Swansea Moose Lodge 1221.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Louise, nee Brien, Gilmer.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Frances C., nee Eversgerd, Gilmer, whom he married on December 2, 1961;
three daughters and two sons, Patricia (Frank) Cange,
Cliff Gilmer,
and Phil Gilmer, all of Belleville, IL,
Susan (Jeff) Casson of Swansea, IL,
and Mary (Jeff) Morris of St. Louis, MO;
and five grandchildren, Jennifer, Jacob, and Emily Cange,
Olivia Casson, and soon-to-be Baby Morris.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 8. 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee and Msgr. John Myler concelebrating. Cremation will follow the services. Burial of cremains will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL, at a later date.
