Katherine “Kathi” Charlene Meggs, née Nolan, 87, of Freeburg, IL, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, in the arms of her husband of 69 years.

Born February 12, 1936, in Tupelo, MS, she was affectionately called “Pat” by her friends and family. Kathi married Lawrence Meggs on May 8, 1954, at the First Methodist Protestant Church in Kosciusko, MS. They moved to Freeburg, IL in 1968 where she became a teacher at Freeburg Community High School after graduating from McKendree College. She passionately taught speech and drama for 22 years at FCHS. Mrs. Meggs was loved by her students, directing many school plays through the years. She was the coach and sponsor of the school’s Model United Nations teams which competed at McKendree College against other high schools. She also took students to New York City several times to experience the real United Nations in action. Kathi loved the theater and frequently attended plays with her dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, P.R. and Mae Nolan; her parents-in-law, Clyde and Minnie Meggs; and two brothers-in-law, James Draden Meggs and Ben Gerald.

Kathi’s loving memory will be cherished by the family who survives her: her husband, Lawrence Meggs of Freeburg, IL; two sons, Scott (Cathy) Meggs of St. Louis, MO, and Chad Meggs of Freeburg, IL; two brothers-in-law, Johnnie (Ray) Jenkins of Meridian, MS, and Jerry (Debbie) Meggs of Kosciusko, MS; a sister-in-law, Annette Gerald of Brooklyn, MS; five grandchildren, Mason (Victoria) Meggs of Freeburg, IL, Zachary (Savannah) Dickerson of Tilden, IL, Victoria Meggs of Freeburg, IL, Andrew Smith of Sherman, MS, and Zoey Smith of St. Louis, MO; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation: Friends and family are invited to pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Jordan Funeral Home, Kosciusko, MS.

Funeral: Funeral services will directly follow visitation, officiated by Reverend Jerry Meggs, Pastor of Crestview Methodist Church of Kosciusko.

Burial will take place at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko, MS.

A memorial luncheon will be held in Freeburg, IL, at a later date.
