Fortified by the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, Kay Sax, nee Sandheinrich, 84, of Millstadt, IL, born May 24, 1938, in Belleville, IL, passed peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL.

Mrs. Sax was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Kay was an avid Cardinals and Billikens fan, as well as a fan of all sports, music, theatre, and other activities in which her children and grandchildren participated.

She enjoyed playing board and card games, especially with her grandchildren and loving caregivers. She never met a stranger and would talk your ear off if you’d let her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert G. Sax, whom she married on May 5, 1959, and who died February 19, 2004; a son, Donald Sax who died in July 2022; and her parents, George and Alma, nee Bertke, Sandheinrich.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry Sax and Ron Sax; three daughters, Barbie (John) Duncan, Jean (Gordon) Meyer, and Mary Jo (Jim) Moehle; a daughter-in-law Mary Kay Eise Sax; 13 grandchildren, Megan (Jay) Peters, Ryan (Megan) Sax, Alan (Stephanie) Sax, Ian Sax, Andrew Sax, Josh (Mikayla) Duncan, Emilye (Nick) Lombardo, Marty Meyer, Miles Meyer, Garrett Meyer, Jack Moehle, Sidney Moehle, and Gus Moehle; and seven great-grandchildren, Henry and Ella Peters, Callie and Jana Sax, and Maria, Scottie and Jesse Duncan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Cardinals Care at 700 Clark Street, St. Louis, MO 63102 or online. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2023, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, 120 North Illinois Street in Belleville, IL and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1706 West Main Street, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. Jack McEvilly officiating.

Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

I am Marvin & Claire Lickenbrock’s other daughter. I too enjoyed seeing Kay, usually when shopping. She was always so sweet & funny to talk to. My deepest sympathy to her family. We will pray for her to rest in peace!

I was so sad to hear about Kay Ann. She and my dad, Marvin Lickenbrock, were first cousins. She was a joy to be around and I will never forget her. My deepest sympathy to all.
