Kevin Dean Schaffner, 62, of Freeburg, IL, born February 5, 1955, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Mr. Schaffner was an avid NHRA drag racing fan.  He was a member and past president of the Freeburg Jaycees.  Kevin enjoyed spending time volunteering for community events, and for many years was instrumental in the Freeburg Homecoming and as a judge and participant in the Freeburg Chili Cook-off, both events benefitting the Freeburg Park District.  He was a past member of the Freeburg Chamber of Commerce, where he was active on various committees.  Kevin was self-employed as a repairman, servicing jukeboxes and video arcade games.  He had previously been employed by BELO in Belleville, IL. His passion was working in his shop on cars and his three-wheel motorcycle, “The Wizard.”  Kevin was also a past member of A.B.A.T.E.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Marie, nee Stivers, Schaffner; a sister, Sandy Schaffner; and a dear friend, Karla Thies.

Surviving are a cousin, Barry Schaffner;
a niece, Amanda Schaffner;
and many dear friends.

Visitation:  A joint visitation for Kevin and his dear friend Ed Fournie will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL.
