Kevin Wilson

Print Obituary
Kevin Paul Wilson, 68, of Swansea, IL, born October 27, 1955, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, after a great life.

Β Kevin was raised in Fairview Heights, IL, and is very proud of and loved his hometown. Kevin was a 1973 graduate of Belleville East High School and played football for the Lancers. His teammates nicknamed him Kevin β€œPerfect” Wilson for his success as a placekicker. He also played offensive guard and middle linebacker at Harper College in Palatine, IL.

After college, Kevin moved home to work with his best friend and father, Perry, at Scott-Banzai Homes.Β  Eventually, Kevin took over the family business, where he worked for 50 years.Β  He became lifelong friends with many of his customers and all of those in the mobile home business.Β  Kevin loved his career and found immense pride in helping people build their dream home.

Kevin had many hobbies that ranged from hunting and spending time at his clubhouse to listening to 1970’s Rock and Roll and fixing up his two Porsche 914’s. Kevin loved coaching, especially baseball at St. Teresa Catholic School, where he led them three times to the Diocesan championships.Β  He never missed a sporting event and enjoyed many scouting campouts and adventures.Β  His true joys were spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Kevin will be remembered for his awesome sense of humor, his kind demeanor, incredible work ethic, ability to fix absolutely anything, and most importantly, his love for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and June Wilson; his father-in-law, Paul Riley; and a brother-in-law, Larry Herrin.

Kevin is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kathleen Riley Wilson; five children, Corey Paul Wilson (Caitlin Allen) of Montclair, NJ, Kara (Mike) Smith of Goshen, KY; Kyle Perry Wilson of Chicago, IL,Β  Jacob Kevin Wilson and John Paul Wilson both of Fairview Heights, IL; six grandchildren, Taylor, Avett, and Grace Smith, and Jack, Kelley, and Patrick Wilson; three brothers, Gary (Becky) Wilson, Bob (Karen) Wilson, and Mark (Yen) Wilson; a sister, Carolyn Herrin; his mother-in-law, Jennie Riley; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim (Heather) Riley, Mary (Tony) Lynn, Tom Riley, and John (Kristy) Riley.

In lieu of flowers, please consider doing a random act of kindness. Kevin would also want you to enjoy the simple things in life; walking in the woods, listening to good music, or enjoying a root beer float. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:Β  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Joseph Oganda and Fr. James Deiters concelebrating.

Private burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Shiloh, IL, at a later date.

My condolences and sympathies go out to the Wilson family. Kevin and I played high school football together. We both stayed in the area and our paths crossed occasionally after high school. We attended football reunions in the following years as well as our 50th high school reunion where Kevin told me of his illness. R.I.P. my friend.

My condolences to your family. Kevin called me prior to our high school reunion. He had heard that I would not be able to attend and wanted to reach out to tell me of his illness and rekindle our long-time distant friendship. He sent me pictures of us playing football in high school. His call meant so much to me, I will remember Kevin from our sports day together what a great guy, Mr. Perfect rest in peace. Please if I can ever be of assistance, please reach out.
