Kim "PF" Pfender was an amazing woman and my first and best mentor as an atty. She took great care of me while I was interning at Lajes Field, Portugal and made sure I made the best legal decisions as a young atty starting out. She LIVED for bowling and her family. She was/is an amazing person and friend, and I'm going to miss knowing she cannot bless everyone she meets with her smile and friendly nature. Thank you for everything you did for me PF, and my heart goes out to Chris, Delaney, and Ian.

Pfender family - our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Kim welcomed Christopher and I to Alaska and made us feel at home. I could always count on Kim, day or night. She always found a way to make me feel special - from homemade cupcakes for my birthday, throwing me my first baby shower, to celebrating and visiting us in the hospital as we welcomed our first child. Words cannot express how much Kim meant to our family. We will miss her dearly. May the Lord watch over you all and bring you peace during this difficult time. Ms. Kim was a wonderful person. She was so kind and caring for those around her. When people describe her as the office mom, it wasn't just because of her experience and expertise, or because she was the one who kept track of everyone's birthdays and brought in cupcakes. She was the first person everyone went to with whatever was happening in their lives - whether to have someone to commiserate with their sorrows or worries or to have someone to share in their joy - and she always had an open door for any of us. She was also wicked awesome at her job. She mentored junior personnel on a multitude of levels, juggled about a thousand tasks at a time without dropping one ever, and still kept an eye on other people to make sure they didn't drop anything either. We said our goodbyes when we both left JBER, but I didn't really think it would be forever forever. I know her family gave her more joy than anything else in the world (even bowling). I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

Everyday around Mrs. Pfender really was a good day because you could feel the love she had for her family, friends, and everyone around her. She was the best office mom I could have hoped for when I arrived at my first base. I appreciate her guidance, tips, and everything else she offered. My condolances and heart go out to her loved ones.

I remember the day Kim told me about connecting with AJ, and she was so very happy. Her love for her family knew no bounds and she showed that love to those she worked with also. I’m sad that she is gone, and yet I have a smile imagining her family reunion with her parents. “Every day is a good day!”

Kim I can see your smiling face right now! I have never met anyone in my life so caring and compassionate about everyone! Since the day we met at Misawa AB Japan you have taught me so much about life and loving people unconditionally. I am so thankful I got to have dinner with you and Chris on 4 June in Alaska at Settlers Bay. It was my honor what to serve with you and when I do grow up I want to be just like you! Yes I was so looking forward to coming and staying at your new mansion i'm going fishing with you all. Death cannot separate our friendship/Love we've shared over the last 18 years. I will see you again my friend but not yet so be looking for me down the road, I Love who and what you stood for in this life!

I worked with Kim at JBER and was fortunate enough to get to work with her again at AMC. Her professionalism and competence were a remarkable credit to herself and the profession. But what made her special were the kindness and willingness to help, regardless of what was asked. She will be greatly and terribly missed.

Dear Chris and family — I’m so terribly sorry to hear about Kim’s passing. I enjoyed the time I got to spend with her in the Air Force. If I had to describe her in 2 words they would be dependable and personable. Whenever Kim had something to do, I knew it would get done and I wouldn’t have to check back to make sure. I also recall that no matter how hectic things got, she would crack a joke, have a smile on her face, and not grumble. If only more people had that kind of energy and attitude. I wish that you had been given more time with her, but I can tell you that I will always remember fondly the time Kim and I spent together. Lisa and I will keep you in our thoughts. — Moe Davis

Chris, Delaney, Ian, and AJ, (who I did not have the pleasure to meet), I am finding this very hard to write, and the tears are flowing as I do so. For 5 years Kim has been the heart and soul of our legal office at JBER. She always had time for everyone, she was superb at her job, and her smile and enthusiasm were infectious. Every week at our staff meeting, she would start her announcements by declaring "Every day is a good day!" And she meant it. When she occasionally forgot to start with her catch phrase, we would tease her gently and remind her to say it. We were sad to see her leave Alaska, yet so pleased for her that so many things seemed right in her life as you all moved on to Scott Air Force Base. I hope that in your grief, you can find a little comfort from the fact that so many of us loved Kim and will keep her in our thoughts always. I think, in her memory, I will take up her mantle, and declare that every day is a good day; it's a wonderful philosophy. Wishing you all peace, comfort and only joyful memories of your wonderful wife and mother. We will all miss her greatly. Aviva

I met Kim in January 2000 at the USAF JAG School. Shawn Goforth was my instructor and he had a new instructor with him, Kim Pfender. Kim had a bright smile and loved talking about her new born baby. Later we served together in Misawa, Japan. I recall she arrived the day my daughter was born. I was glad to see a familiar face. Kim and Chris were not friends they were family. Kim had a passion for training the troops. Chris was a good friend away from work. Chris would ask me to ride motorcycles with him. I taught Kim to ride them in Japan. Kim will be greatly missed. God must have bigger plans for her or she completed her duties in this world. RIP Kim. Forever in our hearts.

Kim andI served together at the JAG school. We were also neighbors on base sharing a wall in connected townhomes. Kim was the most likable person with the biggest heart one could possibly know. She kept in touch over the years and visited us in Tampa. My memories of her include constant laughter at her jokes - often at my expense but they were so funny - our time together rewriting school curriculum, and seeing her passion to her students when things went south (family member passing all the way to a low test score). We didn’t feel like friends but like family. Her strongest passion and love was to her family including all three kids. She would break with joy while talking about them. Her kids were her greatest joy and Chris her Greatest companion, perfectly matched. She was taken too soon there is no doubt but there must be a higher purpose for her some how but that doesn’t make it easy for all of us. We will always cherish Kim and our short time with her. Chris if you all need anything, let us know. We love you all. Our deepest condolences, Shawn and Pepper Goforth

My condolences to the Pfender family. I worked with Kim the last month in her time at AMC. The passion she brought to her vocation was inspiring; a passion evident also in her roles as mother, grandmother, and spouse by a quick glance around her desk. Albeit a short time I worked with her; she nonetheless impacted me. I will miss her.
