Kirby was a fantastic friend to my son, Donny, and I. He gave Donny his 1st official nickname, Knothead, after accidentally dropping him on the bowling alley floor. He was so upset he insisted on taking him to the ER and paying all the bills. Many of us spent a lot of weekends together at the club house and he always kept us entertained, especially the kids who loved messing with him. I never heard him say a bad word about anyone, never saw him without a smile, and I never distrusted anything he told me. Kirby was one in a million and I'm glad to have called him my friend! Rest easy, buddy, you earned it!

The news of Kirby’s passing truly saddens me. Having served with him for many years on the Local 774 executive board I think I can speak on behalf of our members past and present and say that we will always be eternally grateful for Kirby’s leadership, guidance and representation. He worked tirelessly as our local union business representative and health & welfare administrator, so that all of us could have the best shot at life, both on the job and beyond. My prayers go out to the entire Kaufhold family. If I could say one more thing to Kirby it would be “Thank you for being such a great mentor and friend! Sail On brother! See you on the other side! ~ Keith Hempen: Former Vice President Local 774

So sorry to hear about Kirby. As a family of many sign painters (my father, uncle, cousins and my late husband Kenny) I feel I can attest to what a good job he did for all of us in LU 774 but more importantly, what a good friend he was and just an all-around great guy. Poor Kirby attended so many funerals of sign painters and their family members over the years he should be sainted! So sorry for your loss.
