Linda Mentzer

Print Obituary
Linda L. Mentzer, nee Hayes, 77, of Millstadt, IL, born September 7, 1946, in Centralia, IL, died Friday, December 1, 2023, at her residence.

Linda enjoyed gardening, especially her irises. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks and Florida, and shopping.  She gave her all in everything she did and taught us all the definition of the word “fight.” Linda was well respected, loved, and admired by all that had the privilege to know her.  She brought joy and excitement to those around her.

She cherished many birthdays and family dinners. Linda enjoyed preparing special meals (fried chicken) for milestones and special occasions. She enjoyed watching Madison, Connor, Will, and Chase play volleyball, soccer, basketball, and racing.

As a result of the pandemic, regular “driveway” gatherings began and stood the test of time.  These gatherings attracted all of those she loved so deeply.  Linda was absolutely elated when Madison, Will, Chase, and Connor popped in at the house for a quick visit, to grab a soda, or a Hershey nugget from the freezer in the garage.  She absolutely lived and loved every moment with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and many relatives and friends.

Surviving and cherishing her memory are her husband, Tom Mentzer, whom she married on August 15, 1969, and enjoyed 54 years of partnership and marriage; her daughter, Michelle “Shelley” (Kevin) Shipp, and their family, Madison Grohne, Katie (Brian) Fabbro, Cam (Colleen) Shipp, and their children; her son, Brian (Jennifer) Mentzer and their family, Will, Chase, and Connor; a sister-in-law, Shirley Mentzer; numerous nieces and nephews, DeAnn (Rob) Smith, Todd (Amy) Hayes, Paul (Stacy) Mentzer, Craig (Joan) Mentzer, Chris (Tracy) Mentzer and their families; and her special friend, Lana Duncan and her family.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Paul United Church of Christ. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2023, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Michelle Torigian officiating.

Private entombment will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Belleville, IL.

Condolences:

Tom and family, Linda was a great lady. She was one of the first to stop and chat with us when we moved to Buffwood; she usually had a grandchild by her side. She was kind, strong-willed and a warm presence. I hope you all take solace in the memories you've shared. Ashley, Tim, Camden, Gray and Scarlett Hastey

Tom: What an absolutely wonderful lady. The love Linda shared with you and with her family knew no limits. Her friendships were numerous and she always had good words and a helping hand available for everyone. Within the 54 years of your wonderful marriage, Linda and you shared a great partnership. Many achievements and accomplishments were attained by the Mentzer family and Linda and you certainly made it all happen. We know there will an immense void within your life, but you will have terrific memories to treasure, remember and reflect upon and as you look at Shelly and Brian and their families, you will see Linda‘s love right there in their midst. Please know you and the entire Mentzer family are in our thoughts and prayers. God bless!
