I taught second grade at St. Joseph Grade School when Lucille was principal there. Ironically, she moved to Gibault High School where I graduated from and she taught with my Dad there. We've kept in touch throughout the years mainly through Christmas cards at first. Then, when I retired from teaching in 2012 and started working part-time in Activities at an Independent Senior Living Center, we would get together in Belleville for lunch at least two times a year. Since I drove to Belleville, Lucille always insisted on buying me lunch. She was a wonderful, kind, and loving person. I always enjoyed the time we spent together.I will miss her. My sympathy goes out to the entire family. I will keep your family in my prayers during this time of sorrow.

I met Lucille when she visited me in my kindergarten classroom at St. John’s School in Belleville. She said, “I want you and this entire classroom to move to St. Joseph’s School in Freeburg!” And that’s what I did (St. John’s School was closing) when I opened the first kindergarten classroom at St. Joseph’s School. She was a wonderful Principal but then she left to teach at the high school. I am forever grateful for the guidance she shared during that initial year. Later I would see Lucille at the Queen of Peace picnics while she worked in the cafeteria serving the desserts. She was always smiling and sharing stories about her family. Prayers to Tom and the entire family- she will be missed! Connie Barre
