Luella E. Ernst, nee Reeb, 95, of Belleville, IL, born July 13, 1920, in Belleville, IL, died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at Countryside Manor, Aviston, IL.

Mrs. Ernst enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and was especially known for her cooking and baking skills.  She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and belonged to the Ladies’ Sodality at the church.

Luella was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clarence J. Ernst, whom she married on July 22, 1941, and who died on December 30, 2002; her parents, John and Emelia, nee Grau, Reeb; three brothers, John Reeb, Joseph (Mildred) Reeb, and Raymond Reeb; two sisters, Agnes (Jack) Darr, and Regina (Robert) Poelker; one brother-in-law, Andrew Brown; one son-in-law, Dennis J. Hamilton; and a grandson, Dennis J. Hamilton, Jr.

Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn (Robert) Buehlhorn of Belleville, IL,
and Kathleen Rutledge of O’Fallon, IL;
nine grandchildren, John Buehlhorn,
James Buehlhorn and fiancé, Crystal Brown,
Josh (Heather) Buehlhorn,
Christopher Litteken,
Sarah (B.J.) Kilgore,
Andrew Hamilton,
Rachel Alves-Rutledge,
Nathanael Rutledge,
and Jonathan Rutledge;
12 great-grandchildren, Erin, Ethan, Ellie,
Zachary, Jacob, Amado,
Christopher, Maylin, Jada,
Julian, Angel, and Jonny;
one great-great-grandchild, Carter,
and one more expected in August;
one brother, Elmer Reeb of Belleville, IL;
one sister, Estelle Brown of Belleville, IL;
many nieces and nephews, including
special nephew and Godson, Walter “Red” (Viola) Ernst;
and dear friend, Mary McElligott.

Memorials may be made in the form of Masses or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 30, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Christopher Anyanwu and Msgr. James Blazine concelebrating.  Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
