Marcella E. “Marcie” Bedell, nee Hagen, 97, of Belleville, IL, born March 23, 1919, in Belleville, IL, died Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the Dammert Center at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL.

Mrs. Bedell was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Cathedral Parish, Belleville, IL, where she had been a member of the Cathedral Grade School Mothers’ Club and the Perpetual Help Sodality, and had worked many years with the Cathedral Quilters.  She also served as president of the Academy of Notre Dame Mothers’ Club.  Marcie enjoyed sewing, including making her own drapes, reupholstering furniture, and wallpapering – she did everything!  She and her handyman husband, Tom, were an amazing team!

Marcie was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Thomas D. Bedell, whom she married on October 1, 1940, at St. Peter’s Cathedral, and who died on May 29, 1987; her parents, Joseph and Josephine, nee Hoff, Hagen; a brother, Ray (Lydia) Hagen; a sister, Mary (Elmer) Schmidt; a brother-in-law, Paul (Helen) Bedel; and a granddaughter, Marcy Ann Wachtel-Henry.

Surviving are her two daughters, Mary Jo Riley and Ann Marie (Fred) Wachtel, both of Belleville, IL;
four grandsons, Bill ((Missy) Riley, Tom (Margaret) Riley,
Jeff (Tiffinie) Wachtel, and Jeremy (Dennine) Wachtel;
10 great-grandchildren, Finnegan, Thomas, Eloise, and Kilian Riley,
Alex, Jeremiah, Morgan, Zephaniah, and Marcy Ann Wachtel,
and Caydynn Henry;
a sister-in-law, Barbara (Russ) Lindow of Troy, IL;
and nieces and nephews.

Marcie’s family would like to thank Msgr. John Myler for his many visits and spiritual support and the entire staff of Dammert Geriatric Center for the tender loving care given to her the past two-and-a-half years.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at St. Peter’s Cathedral Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter’s Cathedral with Msgr. John Myler officiating.  Burial will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

So sorry to hear of Aunt Marcie passing. She always had a smile her face. I remember the family trip we took to Pensacola, Fl. My heart and prayers go to Mary Jo and Ann Marie and also their families in this difficult time. My love to all.
