Mary Jane retired from Famous Barr with 25 years of service in 1997. She also worked 20 years with H&R Block during tax season. Mary Jane was a long-time member of the APWU Auxiliary and Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL. She enjoyed assisting with the Ladies Auxiliary at Zion, teaching Sunday School, and serving as room mother at Zion Lutheran Grade School.
Mary Jane’s greatest joy was being with family. Through the years, her two boys provided plenty of sporting activities to attend and later, her grandchildren brought great joy to her. She was an avid baker and enjoyed making goodies to share with family and friends. She took exercise seriously and could often be found on a walking trail with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Helen H. Raines; three brothers, James K. Raines, Samuel R. Raines, and Nelson Raines; two sisters, Sarah Brenenstuhl and Nancy Hardesty; and a great-granddaughter, Peyton Schnieders.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Allen A. Martens of Belleville, IL, whom she married on January 9, 1960; two children, Patrick (Amy) Martens of Jefferson City, MO, and Scott (Michele) Martens of Alhambra, IL; two brothers, Tom (Charlotte) Raines of Souderton, PA, and Clyde (Mary Ellen) Raines of East Greenville, PA; one sister, Linda (Mark) Rigby of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Chris Spelbring and Rev. Darwin Schrader officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.
