Mary Wobbe

Print Obituary
Mary Jane Wobbe, nee Schoendienst, 91, of Belleville, IL, much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at Dammert Geriatric Center, Belleville, IL.

Mary was born March 31, 1930, in Germantown IL, the sixth daughter of ten children. She was a graduate of Aviston High School and worked as the Cafeteria Director at Althoff Catholic High School, Belleville, IL, for 23 years.

Mary met her husband, Vince Wobbe, in 1947 and on their first date he told her they would marry and have seven children – and they did! Family was everything to Mary and she left all their children and grandchildren with many funny and loving memories.

In retirement she and Vince crisscrossed the country in a custom van and hosted countless family gatherings, especially 4th of July on Stolberg Lake. Mary loved music and singing and was a longtime member of the Sweet Adelines, performing for many occasions and concerts. Flowers were a passion and she spent many hours tending to her garden and arranging flowers for all occasions. She was the family’s biggest optimist.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vince; her parents, Herman and Lizzie, nee Robben, Schoendienst; five sisters; and a brother.

Surviving are her children, Michele Snyder, Brad (Laurie) Wobbe, Kevin (Connie) Wobbe, Cindy Bennett, Todd (Toni) Wobbe, Bruce (Michelle) Wobbe, and Candace (Dennis) Shea;
15 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren;
her siblings Bernice (Joe) Ebl, Lucille (Cy) Albers, and Robert (Beverly) Schoendienst;
two brothers-in-law, Frank Arentsen and Bob Wobbe;
and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church Parish, Belleville, IL. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Aunt Mary Jane was my godmother. She was always so nice to me as well as my mom and dad who lived in the nursing home at Our Lady of the Snows. She will be missed!

Aunt Mary Jane - what a special lady who made you smile when you were in her presence. She will be missed but I know she is singing in heaven with the other Schoendienst sisters.
