Matthew Jacob Summers, 66, of Belleville, IL, born May 26, 1952, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at the VA St. Louis Health Care System in St. Louis, MO.

Matthew worked at Roesch Enamel and was a veteran of the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Donald and Juanita Summers.

Surviving are his wife, Rita A., nee Keammerer, Summers;
his children, Tammy (Scott) Goodman, Matt Summers,Christopher (Jackie) Summers, and Elisa Summers;
12 grandchildren, Jamie Sobczak (Jarae Weatherby), Brandon, Jakob, and Kristopher Summers, Ethan, Kadin, and Lucas Summers, Makayla Lipson, Bionka Summers, Keith Edwards, Caleb Summers, and Xavier Summers;
a great-grandson, Brayden A. Weatherby, and a brother, David (Patty) Summers.

Memorials may be made to cancer research of donor’s choice.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO, with full military honors.

Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

I taught Matt to play the guitar when he was a young man. Rita, Tammy, and brother Dave, I know, my sympathies to you and Matt's large family. I was proud to have known him. May God's peace comfort all of you.
