Nancy A. Mahoney, nee Baldus, 89, of Belleville, IL, born June 18, 1934, in Belleville, IL, died Monday, October 30, 2023, at Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, IL.

Nancy graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame, Belleville, IL. In her early life she was an operator with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she enjoyed connecting with people over the phone.  She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and was involved with Perpetual Adoration at church. She was a member of the Belleville Jr. Women’s Club and the St. Clair Women’s Club. Nancy volunteered at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Whiteside Grade School, and Meals on Wheels.

Nancy was a huge traveler who had been all over the world, and she especially loved her yearly trips with her family to Fort Myers Beach, FL. An avid reader, she loved a good Steven King novel, and she also enjoyed knitting scarves and sweaters for her many friends and family members. She was a fabulous cook, great at baking cookies, and had a house that was always perfectly decorated for the holidays. She made the best handmade Halloween costumes, and her candy drawer was legendary.  Above all, Nancy’s grandchildren (who knew her as Nana) were her entire world. She lived for those warm, summer days when she could spend hours of fun with her grandkids at her pool.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Mahoney, who died in 2001; her parents, Edgar A. and Margaret, nee Eisenburg, Baldus; and four siblings, Donald “Don” Baldus, Joyce Wohlfeil, August “David” Baldus, and Kenneth Baldus.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Alma) Mahoney, Charles (Wendy) Mahoney, and Erin (Brent) Wilhelm; nine grandchildren, Braden, Sean, Joseph, Jarrett, Carrick, Corra, Miles, Flynn, and Britt; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy Baldus, and Richard “Dick” Wohlfeil; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, technicians, and caregivers who helped Nancy over the years, especially Dr. Koch and Dr. Asghar.
