Nancy Kathleen Pfeiffer, nee Stier, 68, of Millstadt, IL, born October 4, 1947, in Milwaukee, WI, returned to the Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Nancy was a gifted special education teacher for Belleville High School District 201 for 34 years.  She was a pioneer in finding opportunities for her students beyond the classroom.  She capitalized on every teachable moment to inspire her students to achieve their best.

Nancy enjoyed spending time with her friends and especially with her grandchildren.  She and her husband David enjoyed attending their sporting events and traveling.   She will be remembered and sadly missed by her family, her friends, her students, and their parents.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marie, nee Vallero, Stier of Smithton, IL.

Nancy was the beloved wife of David Pfeiffer, whom she married on April 7, 1967;
the much-loved mother of Bradley Pfeiffer (Pam Jones)
and Amy (Steven) Gomric;
and special grandmother to Oliver Pfeiffer, Claire Pfeiffer,
Avery Gomric, and David “Bo” Gomric.
Also surviving are her sister, Joanne (David) Riester;
her brother, John (Shelley) Stier;
and a sister-in-law, Deborah (John) Hillebrandt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to BJC Hospice, Illinois Division, to the Belleville East Girls Track Team, to the American Cancer Society, in the form of Masses at St. Henry Catholic Church, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015, from the funeral home for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Kenneth York officiating.  Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Shiloh, IL.

I am so sorry to hear of Nancy’s death. She was the first friend I made when I moved to Belleville. We had many good times playing in her basement and riding our bikes. My prayers are with her family at this time.

We were so sorry to learn that Nancy had passed away. She was an outstanding teacher in our district and a truly wonderful person. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Nancy’s family and friends.
