Pat was a 1962 graduate of Cathedral High School and a 1967 graduate of SIUC with a BA in Education. Pat taught math at Cahokia High School for 33 years, was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Cathedral parish involved for many years with the grade school Athletic Committee, and was a faithful member of the Althoff Catholic High School Bingo committee every Monday evening for over 34 years.
Pat enjoyed many things in life! His most joyful treasure was sharing with his wife, Margie, in the lives of their six grandchildren. Pat enjoyed bowling his whole life: proud of his 300 game and as a member of the Mascoutah 700 Bowling Club. He loved spending time at the “clubhouse” fishing, playing horseshoes, euchre, and barbecuing in the “pit.” Being a trivia buff, loving music, and dancing at family/friends’ weddings to “Locomotive Breath” were highlights for Pat. Last, but not least, Pat was the best Cardinal baseball coach from his recliner… convinced the team could win all 162 games every season!!!
Pat was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Kathryn, nee Burns, Schwartz; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Marc and Lia, nee Buchmann, Biehl; and a brother-in-law Chuck Sabatino.
Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Margie, nee Biehl, Schwartz, whom he married on September 10, 1966 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Chapel while the Cathedral was being renovated;
two sons: Kevin (Kim) Schwartz and their daughters Brooke, Caitlyn, and Hope; and Keith (Laura) Schwartz and his children Isabel, Ryan, and William; his uncle and aunt, Tom and Betty Burns; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Dick Gundlach, Diane Truttmann, Barbara Sabatino, and Mark Biehl; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and wonderfully dear friends.
Thank you to all of the wonderful, caring medical people along the road with Pat over the past years.
