Paul J. Christophe, 84, of Freeburg, IL, born September 20, 1932, in Belleville, IL, died Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Mercy Rehab & Care Center, Swansea, IL.

Mr. Christophe was a farmer in the local area, and a member of the St. Clair County Farm Bureau.  He was an avid woodworker.  Paul was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Marie, nee Schindler, Christophe, whom he married on November 22, 1956, and who died on May 24, 2012; his parents, Frank L. and Louise M., nee Hausmann, Christophe; a daughter, Nancy Christophe; a son, Daniel Christophe; and a brother in infancy, Clarence Christophe.

Surviving are one son, Kevin (Lisa) Christophe of Belleville, IL;
one daughter, Lynn (James) McGuire of Murfreesboro, TN;
five grandchildren whom he always had a smile and funny word of wisdom for,
Ryan Christophe,
Erica (Andy) Griesbaum,
Rachel Christophe,
Kristen McGuire,
and Kathleen McGuire.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Cedar Trails in Freeburg and to the Fresenius Dialysis Center for the care and laughter given to Paul.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, April 28, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL, with Fr. Stanley Konieczny officiating.

Burial will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Smithton, IL.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Christophe. He was always so sweet to me and my sisters growing up. When we would come by selling candy for school he would always ask for samples!! He had a wonderful sense of humor and loving heart and will be missed.
