Print Obituary

Peggy Ann “Faith” Monken-Wallace, 74, of Belleville, IL, born on Thursday, August 5, 1948, in Belleville, IL, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 2, 2023, in Swansea, IL, with family by her side.

Peggy had worked in civil service for DECCO (Defense Communications) at Scott Air Force Base, IL, for over 22 years from early spring of 1967 until July of 1989 when she moved away for 17 years.

In 1989, Peggy left the area seeking to find happiness elsewhere, where she called a new home in Newtown, Pennsylvania where she stayed for a couple years, before relocating to the Hill Country Areas of Texas (Elgin, Austin, Dripping Springs & Driftwood) until 2006. Then Peggy realized what was really important to her to true happiness and moved back to the Belleville / Swansea area.

Peggy always had a special kindness for all people, as well as animals too. After being a lifelong cat lover, Peggy found a new love and passion in raising and breeding her favorite breed: Kyi-Leo puppies.

Upon arriving back in Illinois in 2006, Peggy found her peace in her life with the companionship with her cat “Lilly” and her last two Kyi-Leos “Daisy and Tonto” and then afterwards her Chihuahua pups “Romeo and Juliet”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Agatha Agnes Middendorf – Monken and Lavern Ripplinger; her biological father, Clifford Earl Monken; two sisters, Kim Monken and Judy Westbrook; a brother, Philip Monken; a nephew, Brian Monken II; a sister-in-law, Terrie Monken; and recently two faithful companions, Chihuahuas “Romeo and Juliet”.

She is survived by her son, Kevin J. (Pam) Wallace; her grandchildren, Kameron and Danielle Wallace; four siblings, Brian Monken Sr., Tina Monken, Louise Lipe, and Brenda L. Hawthorne; a niece and nephew, Sondra and Matt Monken; great-nieces and a great-nephew, Brandon, Kylie, and Sabrina; and her most recent faithful companion, her Chihuahua dog, “Gracié”.

Peggy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her very special caregiver, Makayla Stewart.

Memorials may be made to the Belleville Area Humane Society.
