Philip Adams

Print Obituary
Philip Edward Adams, 49, of Freeburg, IL, died Monday, September 27, 2021, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Philip was born January 3, 1972, in Paducah, KY, to Julian “Butch” and Linda Adams. In his early years he excelled in baseball and basketball and graduated from Massac Community High School Class of 1990.  He worked with his uncle as a painter’s assistant and spent many years as a river towboat deck hand and crew mate. Philip loved horseback riding, fishing with his dad, and spending time on Kentucky Lake with friends, and was an expert pool player like his maternal grandpa.

It’s been said that old people, children, and dogs loved him and that was because he was always kind and considerate to them and could not bear to see a child or animal abused.  He loved his dogs, Chipper, Bart, Heidi, and especially Sierra and her babies that he helped deliver, with the last little one born being his beloved Zoey.

Philip enjoyed watching movies and could tell you which actor played in what movie.  He loved listening to music and was impressed by many artists, such as a young girl violinist, and expert drummer, a back-country woman playing spoons, but his favorite instrument was the acoustic guitar and could listen to it for hours.

He is preceded in death by his paternal great grandmother, Rose Adams: his paternal grandparents, Ed Adams and Helen Ferrell; his maternal grandparents, Fritz and Hilda Sielbeck; two maternal uncles, Dale Sielbeck and Don Sielbeck; and a maternal aunt, Margaret Sielbeck.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Butch (Betty) Adams of Metropolis, IL;
his mother, Linda Adams of Freeburg, IL;
a sister, Julie (Dave) Rickert and his dearly loved niece, Amelia, all of New Athens, IL;
a maternal aunt, June Sielbeck of Metropolis, IL;
a paternal great-aunt, Beverly Adams of Metropolis, IL;
three paternal uncles, Mickey Adams of Metropolis, IL,  Robert (Carmen) Adams of Golconda, IL, and Rocky Adams of Metropolis, IL;
dear friends, Jerome Bray and Edgar Bradford of Metropolis, IL;
and his little dog, Zoey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Massac County Project Hope, 1698 West 10th Street, Metropolis, IL, 62960, or to the DuBois Center c/o St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 7 Belleville, Street, Freeburg, IL, 62243. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

If I could write a poem,
and find the perfect words,
and then put them all to music,
just so my voice gets heard
                        -Aaron Lewis – Vicious Circles

Funeral:  A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2021, at Zion Evangelical Church, Metropolis, IL, with a light reception to follow in the fellowship hall of the church.

Condolences:

I am still completely dumbfounded by this news... I remember Philip's love of music and how he loved lyrics. He was a deep thinker and always looked at things a bit differently than most. He loved his family more than they will ever know - he was a loyal friend, sometimes to a fault. He made friends everywhere he went & always made people laugh. He would kick butt at the pool tables-- and he would always get so lucky on the video poker machines. I'll sure miss him, I hope he can forgive the fact that I hadn't seen him in a couple of years. I hope he is at peace and I know he is watching over us.
