Randy “Rug” Frein

Randy D. “Rug” Frein, 66, of New Athens, IL, born July 31, 1955, in East St. Louis, IL, died Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Frein worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation in the highway maintenance department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved music, and could always be found working on a project, whether it was building or fixing. Rug was a U. S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Wanda, nee Dixon, Frein; and a sister, Shelia Pour.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl Selvey-Frein;
two daughters, Tanya (Tim) Loos and Pamela Frein (LV Randall);
six grandchildren, Jarek Frein, Isaiah Loos, Parish Allen, Tareq Allen, Olivia Allen, and Kendall Randall;
a great-grandchild, Londyn Allen;
two sisters, Sandra Mechler and Sharon Beans (Fred Trevino);
a brother, Danny (Cheryl) Frein;
a sister-in-law, Gloria Selvey;
a brother-in-law, Terri Smith;
his brother from another mother and beloved friend, Jim “Stumpy” Denbow;
and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral: A celebration of life will be held from 12 noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at BackStreet Wine and Dine, 310 East Back Street, Hecker, IL.

So sorry to learn of Randy’s passing and of his struggles with dementia. He and I were close friends from about 1968 until he and his family moved to New Athens in about 1972. I have great memories of Randy and I remember how important his family was to him. I offer my sincere condolences to Randy’s loved ones and pray that they will find the strength to be at peace with his passing.
