Print Obituary
Richard L. Prosser, 84, of O’Fallon, IL, born April 18, 1939, in East St. Louis, IL, died, Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family.

Mr. Prosser worked twenty-five years as a manager with Anheuser- Busch Brewing Company, retiring in 1999. He served in the United States Army Reserves.  He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Shiloh, IL. He volunteered with Minds Eye Radio at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows and served as a eucharistic minister at Memorial Hospital, Shiloh, IL.

Dick was a kind, peaceful, generous, family man. He was a dedicated husband to his wife, and father to his children. He took great pride in being a full-time Papa. He loved to travel with his wife, Pat, along with many close friends and enjoyed several Prowhino family vacations. Some of his favorite past times included gardening, bowling, and golfing. He enjoyed the challenge of fixing all things fixable!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence S. and Esther, nee Zuroweste, Prosser; a son, Jeffrey Prosser; in-laws, Cyril and Lucille Biver, and a brother-in-law, James Wellinghoff.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia A., nee Biver, Prosser, whom he married on September 3, 1962, at St. Peter Cathedral, Belleville, IL; two daughters, Deborah Prosser (partner, Mark Brandon), and Diana (Mark) Noonan; a daughter-in-law, Marnie Prosser; six grandchildren, Juliana White (fiancé, Brennan Boudreaux), Kenton White, Bradley and Christopher Prosser, and Maya and Eddie Noonan; a sister, Mary Joan Wellinghoff; a brother, James J. (Joan) Prosser; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST.

God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you,
And whispered, “Come with Me.”

With tearful eyes and heavy hearts
We watched you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Working hands were put to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Pat & Family, We pray God replaces your sorrow with happy memories of Dick. We have been so blessed to have had him as a neighbor and friend. We will miss our front porch sessions where we solved all of the world’s problems. Rest in peace “Old-timer” until we meet again.

Pat, I have so many wonderful memories of visiting in one another's homes, sharing dinners, stories and laughs. Dick always had a smile and was compassionate and kind. He touched so many lives through his volunteering. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. I am grateful to have know him and to call you and Dick my friends. Praying for God's peace and comfort for you and your family.

So sorry to hear of Richard’s death. What a beautiful story his obituary told. Our paths crossed many times over the years-always a caring smile Not too long ago we were both getting blood work at Memorial. We talked for a bit. He made sure he asked about my hubby. He told me Pat was getting the car so I made sure I got to see her too. I am so glad I had that opportunity. May special memories bring you comfort in the days ahead

We go way back to our days at St. John’s School where our kids studied together and we worked Bingo together! We re-connected when Dick became a very dedicated and committed Minister of the Eucharist at Memorial Hospital for the Ministry to Sick and Aged! He was at Memorial Shiloh EVERY Friday distributing the Eucharist and praying with patients! He touched so many and he will be missed!! May he rest in peace!!
