Richard “Rick” Joseph York, 77, of Belleville, IL, born January 30, 1946, in East St. Louis, IL, died Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in Lebanon, IL.

Rick worked as an apprentice pharmacist, in East St. Louis in 1964. He was drafted into the Army in 1968 and was discharged in 1970. Rick was a jack of all trades at Truck Transport. He attended SIUE and received his bachelor’s in accounting in 1987. He was a certified public accountant with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Illinois CPA Society. Rick served as a CPA for Rice Sullivan, COO for Catholic Knights, and a CPA for Diel & Forguson Financial Group for a combined 34 years.

Rick was past president of the St. Clair West Rotary Club from 1998-1999, and past president of the Illinois State Society of CPA’s Southern Chapter from 2000-2001. He also served on the Illinois Board of Examiners. Rick was a dedicated member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, where he served as a Lector and Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. He was a leader for Boy Scout Troop Pack 11 through St. Peter’s Cathedral Church, Belleville, IL.

Rick was a devoted son, husband, brother, father, and grandfather. There was never a time he was needed that he did not rise to the occasion. He served his country, his family, his community, and God all with great honor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles S. and Cecilia A., nee Wuller, York; a sister-in-law, Dana York; and a nephew, John York.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Dawn M., nee Crannage, Fietsam York, whom he married on September 22, 1995; eight brothers and sisters, Dennis York, Christine York, George (Jane) York, Patricia (Ken) Jansen, Rev. Kenneth J. York, Kathryn York, Mary E. York, and Vincent York; two children, Craig Fietsam and Julie (Tim) Fietsam-Conder; seven grandchildren, Ronald Fietsam, Molly Fietsam-Conder, Shannon Conder, Allison Conder, Fischer S. Marino, Craig Fietsam Jr., and Grayson Fietsam; his mother-in-law, Lorraine Crannage; sisters-in-law, Diane (John) Wagner, Donna (John) Loesche, and Denise Crannage; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 14, 2023, at St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A memorial mass will be held at noon Saturday, October 14, 2023, at St. Henry Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Kenneth York officiating.

As a final act of kindness, Richard gifted his body to Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO.

I am so very sorry to hear this. Richard was such a great person. It's been a while but he always was happy to see you. He will be missed. I wish you all my heartfelt sympathy. I just found out or I would have been there. Love to all.
