Rita was the long-time Childcare Director at Our World Child Care/Adult Day Services in O’Fallon, IL. Because she adored children, she then worked as a private nanny for 18 years for a family that took her into their home and their hearts.
Rita loved to travel; Hawaii being her favorite destination. She was able to visit all 50 U.S. states, including a fun vacation to Alaska with her nanny family. She also loved to read, attend trivia nights, and play board games. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals’ fan, as well as a big Elvis fan.
Family was very important to Rita. She was the main organizer of the annual extended family Christmas gathering at a local restaurant and an annual cousins’ reunion dinner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand J. and Dolores A., nee Hempen, Meyer.
Surviving are two sisters, Donna (Lee) Wagner of Carlyle, IL, and Bette Meyer of Belleville, IL; and a brother, Bill (Maureen) Meyer of Oak Park, IL; two nieces, Sydney and Isabelle Meyer, two aunts and many cousins and friends.
Rita wanted to express her gratitude to the Washington University Center for Advanced Medicine, Siteman Cancer Center in Shiloh, IL and Family Hospice for their compassionate care.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2022, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.
Burial will be held at a later date.
