Rita enjoyed family holidays. She always prepared a feast. Annual vacations, get togethers, playing cards, and preparing and serving meals to Celebrate Recovery were a few of her passions.
Rita was preceded in death by her loving husband of 36 years, Daniel “Danny” Strumberg, whom she married on July 19, 1979, and who died on June 11, 2016; and her parents, Robert and Regina, nee Reeb, Poelker.
Surviving to cherish in her memory are her son, Daniel (Nicole) Strumberg of Belleville, IL; a brother, Thom Poelker of Belleville, IL; a sister, Janet (Dennis) McLaurin of Fairview Heights, IL; a sister-in-law, Judy Behrman of Belleville, IL; a nephew, Jim Sodam of Shiloh, IL; her aunt, uncle, nieces and nephews, and friends; and her “just like a daughter” Mandi Hediger and granddaughter, Madison.

Funeral: A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023, at St. Matthew Church, 1200 Moreland Drive, Belleville, IL, with Pastor Bob Swickard officiating.
