Robert “Bob” Lee Gantner, 73, of Swansea, IL, born February 6, 1949, in Belleville, IL, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022.

Bob was a graduate of Belleville Township High School in 1967 and received his BS from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1971. Bob was a businessman who made lifelong friendships throughout all of his endeavors. He never knew a stranger. A founding member of the “Pole Planters,” Bob spread his joy for the outdoors and his grand love of travel and life to all. An aspiring pilot in his younger years, he also enjoyed racing Hobie Cats on Carlyle Lake with his wife, soulmate, and college sweetheart, Cheryl. An avid fly fisherman throughout his life, Bob was always ready for life’s adventures. His shining personality brightened any room and always made others happy. He was truly the life of the party. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved to entertain.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy “Chip” and Florence, nee Spielman, Gantner; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Gertrude, nee Litten, Corrigan.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cheryl Ann; a son, Ryan Robert and his wife, Julie; a daughter, Cara Ann; a grandson, Chase Hunter; a sister-in-law, Christine Fuehner; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael and Carol Corrigan, Neil and Colleen Isselhardt, and Patrick and Liz Corrigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who Bob dearly loved.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Center for Autism. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

First of all Cheryl I apologize for the delay in my condolence. Mike Lukens called me and told me about Bob. What a shock. I’m saddened. I shall always remember Bob as we worked closely in my early days of orthopaedics with Midwest Medical and Howmedica. As a sales rep for Midwest Medical selling Howmedica Orthopedic devices Bob recruited me to be an area manager and then eventually a regional manager. There were many, many great memories with Bob. He truly was a one-of-a-kind with his personality, life of the party, his sense of humor, his energy, his bigger than life smile and his knowledge of orthopaedics, etc. With Bob it can truly be said that, "you can't put a price on a good time". :) I moved from St. Louis to San Diego and then to Chandler, AZ 34 years ago. I always figured I would stay connected with my "home" and friends, but family, job, moving and other life activities interrupted. Cheryl I extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family and hope and pray that many, many great memories will comfort you in the loss of Bob, a very good man! Rest in peace Bob.

The world has lost a great human being. I worked with Bob at Howmedica for many years. Shared a few Orthopedic ski meetings. Bob, also known as “Gator Gantner” always had a positive attitude and a big smile to match. My condolences to you Cheryl and the children. He’s in God’s hands now !

Cheryl, I am so sorry for your great loss. Bob was a great guy. I first knew him in high school when he worked at Sandy's and later while at SIUE. He was fun- loving and a funny guy. He drew people to him. I last saw him with you at an ACHS reunion. He hadn't changed. Still a good guy. Rick Schaefer

Dear Cheryl, I was so sad to hear of Bob’s passing and it is hard to believe he is gone. Though it has been many years since we were together, I will never forget the many great times we had together. From growing up as little kids to sharing a few drinks as young adults, Bob always had a smile on his face and a witty comment for any occasion. We shared many a hearty laugh on the gatherings at my parents house on New Year’s Day and that is just one of many memories that I will never forget. May God bless you and your family and take some comfort in the wonderful memories of Bob and all of the lives he touched.

We are very sad to hear and offer our condolences for the loss of Bob. Many years ago, we met in Belleville at various bars and then SIU and the first time we met was at his first job, Sandy's Hamburgers. Bob was the life of the party, his humor and timely wit were remarkable. Lots of parties and while driving his yellow MGB around town.
