Robert J. “Porky” Hannan Jr., 91, of Swansea, IL, born March 24, 1930, in East St. Louis, IL, died Friday, October 1, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Hannan was the former owner of Cotton & Porky’s Tavern.  He retired from his sales position with Doc’s Distributing and was a member of Teamsters Local 50.  Porky was a member of the Mississippi Valley Duck Hunters of Illinois, a life member of the Belleville/Swansea Moose Lodge 1221, the Colorado Elk Hunting Buddies, and Duck’s Unlimited.  He was a 1948 graduate of Cathedral High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joseph and Marie Henrietta, nee Bruno, Hannan; and three sisters, Aileen Wood, Joan M. Brown, and Marienne Morgan.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Patricia Ann Gjerswald, whom he married on May 22, 1990;
his daughter, Cherie Rene Hannan;
a stepdaughter, Deborah McAnally (Steve Griffith);
a stepson, Robert Gjerswald (Nancy Burton);
four grandchildren, Annie Griffith, Michael Griffith, Laura Bourgeois, and Gregory Gjerswald;
cousins, Judge (Retired) Annette Eckert, Major General (Retired) Bill Enyart, Alex Enyart, Richard and Reba Hannan, Dr. Jay and Tanya Enyart, and Gavin;
and special friends, Davy and Donna Koderhandt, and Ben and Hyne Koch.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, or to St. Mary Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL. Standard CDC guidelines will be followed, including masks and social distancing.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Stanley Konieczny officiating.

Burial with military honors will be at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Cemetery, Hecker, IL.

My deepest sympathies to the Hannan Family. Porky and I go back 73 years (1944). We met as Freshman at Cathedral High and remained friends and in contact as recently as the last 30-days. I will miss his friendship.

So sorry for your loss. He was always so much fun when you would come in the Dr RBR office. I'm across the river now close to my daughter. Miss you guys.
