Robert, affectionately known as Rob, held a profound love for his family that shaped the core of his being. His 45-year marriage to Nikki Lyn Vogel (nee Abromovich) was a testament to the spiritual connection they shared, transcending the physical realm when she passed on July 2, 2021. Rob’s support and love for his two surviving sons, Adam (Tamara) Vogel of Lake Stevens, WA, and Nicholas (Jennifer) Vogel of Columbia, MO, was unwavering.
Rob’s heartbeat was in his drumming, a rhythm that reverberated through the core of the Southern Illinois music scene for decades. His extraordinary talent on the drums resonated with countless bands and even led him to be a cherished member of the Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps. Beyond his melodic pursuits, Rob was also a dedicated member of the Shriners and a Freemason, embodying principles of service and brotherhood.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Ervin and Betty Vogel (nee Daley), along with two sisters-in-law, Lois Vogel and Ann Marie Walker. Rob is survived by his three brothers, Peter (Pat) Vogel, Charles Vogel, and Don (Brenda) Vogel; a brother-in-law, Glen Walker; a nephew, Aaron Walker; nieces, Alecia Hammen and Delaina Root, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
Rob’s memory will forever resonate in the hearts of his four grandchildren, Lochlan, Niven, Clancy, and Layne, who brought immense joy to his life. Their laughter and innocent curiosity mirrored the joy he found in Freeburg’s simple pleasures.
In lieu of flowers, in honor of Rob’s memory, contributions can be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeburg, IL, or to the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO. Condolences and shared remembrances can be expressed to the family through the online portal at www.rennerfh.com.

A memorial mass will follow at 11 a.m., where Father Von Deeke and Deacon Corby Valentine will jointly celebrate Rob’s life.
While his cremains will be interred at a later date, the memories he wove into the fabric of the town will forever grace its heart. As Freeburg mourns the loss of a devoted husband, a loving father, and a passionate musician, may his life continue to remind us of the power of community, the magic of music, and the beauty of a life dedicated to service.
