Roger Rubemeyer

Print Obituary
Dr. Roger L. Rubemeyer, 80 of Freeburg, Illinois, born January 30, 1937 in Valmeyer, Illinois, was called to his eternal home on January 25, 2018.

Roger retired from Freeburg High School in 1993, after serving for 21 years as the superintendent. During his time at FCHS, Roger left an indelible legacy; whether through a kind word to a student, or by bringing football and literally (as well as figuratively) “lighting up” the Midgets’ home turf, Roger’s impact on our community will always be remembered.

In addition to his innovative attitude, Roger’s kindness and generosity are unforgettable. Whether it was buying Girl Scout cookies that he didn’t eat, or paying for Freeburg Police remote canine exit, Roger was always generous and happy to lend a helping hand.

Ever the adventurer, Roger lived his life to the fullest. As an instrument rated pilot, Roger loved flying.  Roger and Lori travelled extensively through the U.S. and Europe. Constantly exploring new horizons, he always retained a youthful spirit.

Roger is preceded in his death by his loving wife Loretta “Lori”, (nee Liefer), Rubemeyer, whom he married October 18, 1958, and who sadly died August 7, 2012; Roger often said, ‘there wasn’t a day that he didn’t think about Lori’. Also, preceding his death are his parents Henry C. and Viola, (nee Schallom), Rubemeyer; a brother Ronald Rubemeyer, a sister-in-law Delores, (nee Deanne) Rubemeyer; and a brother-in-law, Tony Giglotto.

Roger will be dearly missed by his two sons, Scott A. (Julie) Rubemeyer of Erlanger, KY and Todd D. Rubemeyer of Freeburg, IL.  He leaves behind seven grandchildren, Zachary (Libby) Rubemeyer, of Oceanside CA, Alysse (Kody) Heberer and Vanessa Rubemeyer, of Freeburg, IL, Abigail Rubemeyer of Fairfax, VA, Max, Dexter and Jett Rubemeyer of Erlanger, KY; three great-grandchildren William and Weston Rubemeyer of Oceanside CA; and Claire Heberer of Freeburg, IL; a sister Mary Ann Giglotto of Waterloo, IL; several nieces and nephews, and a dear friend, Colette Adrian.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL, with Father Mark Reyling officiating.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Freeburg, IL.

Our Sincere Sympathy to the Family. We were very honored to have know Roger and Lori Rubemeyer as great people and friends. No words can really express the full thankfulness of all their kindness and friendship to our family over the many years of having them as teachers and mentor to myself in school then later to be blessed to have them still in our many years of life and living in Deerfield Court since 1992. May God grant the family peace and strength to face this time of sorrow. If there is anything we can be of help please don't hesitate to ask. God Bless. Ann and Amanda Embry
