Print Obituary
Ronald Gene “Jolly” Joellenbeck, 85, of Belleville, IL, born September 22, 1938, in Belleville, IL, died Saturday, December 2, 2023, at his residence.

Jolly was first and foremost a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a retired cabinet maker and partner of J&R Cabinet Shop, Swansea, IL. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local #433 for over 60 years. Ronnie’s favorite pastime was hunting and commercial fishing. He was a well-known legend at his clubhouse on the Kaskaskia River in Evansville, IL, and he could often be found frying his delicious secret recipe fish, for his family and friends. Jolly always brightened up a room with his one-of-a-kind sense of humor, and he loved practical jokes. He was a member of the Lebanon Gun Club, The Mississippi Valley Duck Hunters Association, The Moose, and The Quail Club. Jolly was a generous friend to all that knew him, and he will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Irene, nee Rensing, Joellenbeck; a granddaughter, Katie Jean Joellenbeck; and a brother-in-law, William A. Hoelscher.

Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Marsha Joellenbeck, and they would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on December 8, 2023.

He is also survived by his loving children, Rebecca (James) Forquer, Timothy Joellenbeck, Christopher (Laura) Joellenbeck, and Rhonda (Charles) Oliver, 12 grandchildren, Jason, John, Jeff, Jesse, Timmy, Hillary Rob, Jason, Justin, Cassie, Maggie, and Liam; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman (Janet) Joellenbeck; a sister, Patricia Hoelscher; and many great friends, too numerous to name.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Jolly’s memory to Katie Jean Joellenbeck First Responder Assistance Memorial (FRAM) or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

My prayers are sent to Marsha, Rhonda and the rest of the family for healing in this time of loss. We knew jolly Ronnie for at least 40 years and he will be so greatly missed. It's so hard to believe he is gone but will be teaching fishing to those in heaven.
