Ruth Anna Groth, nee Weier, 95, of Freeburg, IL, passed away peacefully Friday, July 16, 2021.

Ruth was born July 8, 1926, in Belleville, IL to the late William and Catherine (Thien) Weier.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilmar Groth, whom she married Sept. 8, 1948.  Spending most of their married life in Freeburg, they worked together helping to run a family business.  They enjoyed playing cards, dancing, barbeques and spending time with family and friends.  Ruth was an avid reader, loved to quilt, watch the St. Louis Cardinals, and made the best peanut squares. She had a deep faith which she shared with her family.  God and family were the two most important things in her life.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William and Raymond Weier, two sisters, Dorothy Determan and Viola Weier; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by two children, Kay (John) Oeltjen of Des Peres, MO, and Kevin Groth of Freeburg, IL; three grandchildren, Greg (Liz) Oeltjen, David (Jamie) Oeltjen, and Laura (Rob) Welch all of St. Louis, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Madison and Jack Oeltjen, Virginia and Molly Oeltjen, and Lilly, Ava and Ben Welch; three sisters, Florence Roberg, Kathleen (Bob) Lobermeier, and Judy Hurst; and a brother-in-law, Don Smith.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL, with Father Von Deeke officiating.

 Burial will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL. A luncheon will follow the burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church parish center.

Kay, John and family, I'm so sorry for your loss. She was such a sweet soul. She reminded me of my mom's mother.
