Samuel Koesterer, 88, of Freeburg, IL, born November 24, 1927, in Freeburg, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at his residence.

Mr. Koesterer was a union laborer, having worked before his retirement for Peabody Coal.  In addition, Sam and his wife, Pearl, owned and operated Sam and Pearl’s Tavern, in Freeburg, IL.  Sam was a member of the Freeburg Sportsmen’s Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Pearl, nee Whipple, Koesterer; a son, Scott Koesterer; a daughter, Susan Miller; and his parents, Emil and Edith, nee Mudd, Koesterer.

Surviving are two sons, Steve Koesterer of Portland, OR,
and Stuart Koesterer of Freeburg, IL;
two granddaughters, Devan Koesterer (Mike Nussbaumer) of Freeburg, IL,
and Nicole Koesterer of Fairview Heights, IL;
and one great-grandson, Kolten Nussbaumer.

Sam’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Donna Holliday and Amanda Daubach for their constant care, love, and support.

In addition, the family would like to thank Dr. Althoff, Hospice of Southern Illinois, and all of Sam’s friends and extended family for their care and concern.

Funeral:  A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Freeburg, IL, with Father Mark Reyling officiating.

I’m so sad to hear that Sam has passed on. No matter, how expected it may have been, it is still hard lose them. He and Pearl, Russel and all his family were there to welcome him home.I am praying that God will give you comfort and help you in this time of sorrow. Hugs!
