Shelly Carter

Print Obituary
Shelly M. Carter, nee Micklos, 66, of Belleville, IL, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at her residence.

Shelly was born on May 27, 1958, in Streator, IL, to Rosemary Micklos, nee Kusnerik, and Louis Micklos.

In her early working years, she was employed by Kimes Elementary School in Streator, IL. Since 2014, she had been employed by Abe Lincoln Elementary School as a supervisor and had still volunteered for the mobile market helping several families drive through and get food for their families.  In any needed situation she was the first to volunteer help.  After leaving Abe Lincoln last year, Shelly spent many mornings watching the kids in the Child Watch at The Belleville East YMCA.

Shelly’s family was her world. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at her home, attending their sporting events, and extracurricular school events. Shelly was always proud to share their stories and many pictures with family that did not live in the area. She loved going out to dinner with her husband, Dave. They also enjoyed attending music events, St. Louis Cardinals baseball games, or just being at home preparing meals or trying a new recipe.  She was a truly loyal lifetime Cardinal fan.  Shelly had a big heart and loved animals. She would adopt every dog if she could. Shelly’s friends and acquaintances, who were lucky enough to know and love her, were very important in her life.

Shelly’s smile and love will be missed by all her family, near and far away, and by all those that knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, David Micklos.

Surviving are her husband, Dave Carter, whom she married on March 11, 1994, in Streator, IL; three children, Tiffany (Michael) Clark, Derek (Tonya) Carter, and Jody (Jonathon) Young; 10 grandchildren, Kiersten, Charles, Brendan, Brayden, and Kayden Clark, Makayla (Josh) Deland, Daxton Carter, Maleya Affrunti, Brody Young, and Grady Young; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane (Willy) Williamson and Cindy (Jerry) Hinds; and several nieces, nephews, and dear cousins.

Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Dave, Tiffany, Mike & family, Diane, Cindy & families, My deepest sympathies at the loss of Shelly. She had a smile and an energy bigger than life. Her obituary was a lovely spot on tribute to a beautiful soul. May you all reflect on her life with the happiest memories. I can still hear her unique laugh. No doubt she was greeted at the pearly gates with arms open wide. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Deeply, Marianne
