 Shirley J. Kirchhoefer, nee Schwarz, 88, of Freeburg, IL, born August 21, 1935, in New Athens, IL, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Kirchhoefer worked for a St. Louis law office for 15 years and later for a New Athens foundry for 35 years. Shirley loved watching NFL football, MLB baseball, and softball.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, George Eugene “Scratchy” Kirchhoefer, whom she married on November 4, 1961, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Freeburg, IL, and who died on December 5, 2013; her parents, William R. and Emma C., nee Monike, Schwarz; a brother, Irwin W. (Helena) Schwarz; two sisters-in-law, Marianne Skorcz and Janet Chilton; and a nephew, Douglas Chilton.

She is survived by her two brothers-in-law, David Skorcz and Tim Chilton; nieces and nephews, including twin nieces who brought her great joy, Sondra Ann (Brian) Watson and Sonya Lee (Richard II) Donald; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, IL, with Rev. Andrew Lovins officiating.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.

Condolences to Shirley's family. We were on the same fast-pitch softball team, the New Athens Cats. Many great memories.

Condolences to Sondra and Sonya and family. Shirley was not only a neighbor but a great friend. We have many wonderful memories that will live on. RIP and until we meet again.
