Shirley Jean Souris, nee Schnur, 83, of Mesa, AZ, born July 27, 1937, in Belleville, IL, died Monday, May 24, 2021, in Gilbert, AZ.

Shirley graduated from Ritenour High School in Breckenridge Hills, St. Louis County, Missouri in 1956, and moved to Phoenix in 1964; beginning a 20-year career in data processing at the corporate headquarters of ARCOA Inc. (U-Haul) in 1967. In 1986, she switched vocations to telemarketing, well-suited to her conversational and gentle nature, until her retirement to Mesa in 2002. Her deep appreciation of the desert in general and Arizona in particular, which drew her from the Midwest in her youth, never faltered. Shirley, a loving mother and grandmother, was a member of the Central Christian Church of Mesa, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter August Schnur, on November 3, 2004; and her mother, Iona Mertie Schnur, nee Weiss, on August 25, 2003.

Surviving are her son, Dr. Jeffrey S. (Dr. Christa M.) Souris of Chicago, IL; a grandson, Nikolaos A. Souris; a granddaughter, Gabriella M. Souris; and a great number of cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2021, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, with Pastor Brian Robison officiating.

Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
