Sue graduated from St. Teresa Academy in 1951. She was past president of both the East St. Louis Junior Women’s Club and the St. Clair Women’s Club. Sue was recognized by Catholic Social Services and received both the Catholic Service Award and the Jubilee Distinguished Service Award. Sue, along with Msgr. Jack McEvilly and friends, originated the St. Peregrine Devotions at our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. She volunteered at both Queen of Peace and Althoff Catholic High School. Sue was a realtor for Custom House Reality before her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald L. “Demo” DeMarse Sr., whom she married on October 17, 1953 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and who died on October 24, 2007; a grandson, Tim Frazier; her parents, George and Elizabeth “Toots”, nee Beuckman, Gerold, a brother, E. F. Gerold; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Everett) Stanley; and two brothers-in-law, Tom DeMarse and Arnold (Ann) DeMarse.
Surviving are three sons, Donald “Demo” DeMarse Jr., Chuck DeMarse, and Gerry (Susan) DeMarse;
two daughters, Elizabeth (Tim) Messbarger, and Cynthia (Mike) Biggs;
11 grandchildren, Christine (Mike), Donyelle, Lauren, Megan, Austin, Eric, Anna “Toots”, Mike, Doug, Jeff (Meaghan), and AJ;
five great-grandchildren, Brady, Austin, Cody, Aubree, and Timmy;
many other dear family members;
and special dear “STAND” friends from high school.
