
She was the office manager for Freeburg Printing and Publishing. She served on the Freeburg Community Consolidated School District No. 70 Board of Education and also served on the Freeburg Planning Commission. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeburg, Ill.
Mrs. Carpenter was a dedicated mother of two sons of whom she was extremely proud. Her favorite pastime was spending time in the sun by the pool or on a sandy beach. She had a passion for reading literature of all kinds, but especially British historical fiction novels.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Johnnie Eugene (Gene) and Mary Ann, nee Feldmann, Lopez of Belleville, Ill., and Elijah Merle and Anne Rose, nee Maes, Howie of Smithton, Ill.; and her father-in-law, Harold Carpenter of Freeburg, Ill.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Thomas Carpenter of Freeburg, Ill., whom she married on October 17, 1992, in Freeburg, Ill.; two sons, Noah Carpenter of Oxford, Miss., and Henry Carpenter at home; her mother and father, Gary and Margaret Lopez, of Shiloh, Ill.; three sisters, Nicky (Scott) Olson of Smithton, Ill., Mary Ann (Mark) Lopez-Drake of Red Bud, Ill., and Emily (Dave) Wombacher of Smithton, Ill.; her mother-in-law, Judy Carpenter of Freeburg, Ill.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hal and Susan Carpenter of Freeburg, Ill.; three nephews, Hans (fiancee, Jessica) Carpenter of Marissa, Ill., Drummond (fiancée, Kennady) Carpenter of Freeburg, Ill., and James Wombacher of Smithton, Ill.; three nieces, Abbey Carpenter of Quincy, Ill., Avery Olson of Smithton, Ill., and Addison Olson of Smithton, Ill.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Freeburg, Ill. Standard CDC guidelines, including masks and a limited number of visitors at any one time will be observed.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Freeburg, Ill., with Father Von Deeke officiating.
