Mrs. Lickenbrock was a founding member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. She was an active member of the Ladies Sodality, Meals on Wheels, and volunteered for card party luncheons. After losing her husband at an early age, she became both mother and father to her four children. She loved gardening, working in her yard, and especially tending to her flowerbeds. Verna loved to cook and found joy in sharing her food with her family, especially her soups, pies, and holiday cookies. A loving mother and grandmother, Verna’s grandchildren were her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Melvin G. Lickenbrock, whom she married on March 31, 1951, and who died on January 1, 1979; her parents, Fred and Wilhemina, nee Luebbers, Middendorf; a great-grandson, Justin Altemeier; her twin brother, Vernon (Delores) Middendorf; and siblings, Leo (Susie) Middendorf, Clarence (Esther) Middendorf, Adolph (Verena) Middendorf, Ethel (Alvin) Friederich, and Albinus Middendorf; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodore and Rose Lickenbrock; and a brother-in-law Marvin (Claire) Lickenbrock.
Surviving are her four children, Donna J. (Mark) Altemeier, Kenneth F. (Elaine) Lickenbrock, Debra L. (Dennis) Wilburn, and Kristine M. (Tim) Albrecht; eight grandchildren, Brian Altemeier (fiancée, Lynn Crawley), Scott (Tasha) Altemeier, Lindsey (Steve) Brede, Katie (Michael) Karr, Lauren (Aaron) Branch Mitchell (Samantha) Ettling, Kyle Wilburn (fiancée, Cassey Dayton), Taylor (Collin) Mingo, and Karlee Albrecht (Taylor Schmitt); 11 great-grandchildren, Anna Altemeier, Peyton Altemeier, Mylie Altemeier, Jolie Branch, Carter Dill, Laynee Dill, Ashton Brede, Bennett Brede, Kamryn Karr, Evelyn Wilburn, and Kinley Wilburn; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
