Walter Louis Czerniejewski, 91, of Smithton, IL, born February 5, 1924, in Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2015, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville, IL, with his family at his side.

He retired from General Motors where he had worked for over 32 years.  He was a member of U.A.W. Local 25.  He was a past member and usher of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and a current member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary, nee Dreas, Czerniejewski; a sister, Florence Lamczyk; a brother, Daniel Czerniejewski; and brothers-in-law, Raymond Lamczyk and William Nadolski.

Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy R., nee Barczewski, Czerniejewski, whom he married on February 13, 1956;
seven children, Phyllis (Michael) Martin of Red Bud, IL,
Jeanette (Robert) Niedbalski of Smithton, IL,
Michael Czerniejewski of St. Peters, MO,
Paul (Rebecca) Czerniejewski of Swansea, IL,
John Czerniejewski of Smithton, IL,
Alice (Paul) Quirin of Smithton, IL,
and Mark (Rebecca) Czerniejewski of Waterloo, IL;
12 grandchildren, Tim Martin,
Sarah, Emily, Thomas,
Trevor, Jordan, Anna,
Roman, and Cecilia Czerniejewski,
Alexander, Jessica, and Joshua Erwin;
two step-grandsons, David and Steven Quirin;
one sister, Lucille Nadolski;
one brother, Albert (Maxine) Czerniejewski;
two brothers-in-law, Eugene (Esther) Barczewski,
and Leo (Shirley) Barczewski;
numerous nieces and nephews;
and other relatives.

Should friends desire, Mass offerings or memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Smithton, IL. Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Smithton, IL, with Fr. Stan Konieczny officiating.

Burial will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.

We were sorry to hear of Walter’s passing. We always enjoyed visiting with you when we would see you at the Mass at the Shrine. Walter was one of th finest gentlemen I ever knew. We will miss him also.
