William “Bill” Stumpf

Print Obituary
William “Bill” Stumpf, 72, of Belleville, IL, born July 27, 1950, in Belleville, IL, died Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Bill worked tirelessly as a dairy farmer for most of his days on S&M Dairy. Even after selling off the livestock, he continued to farm, until just recently. Off the farm, Bill was a devoted family man. He was known for his weekly phone calls to check in on his siblings and keeping up with his children’s busy schedules. Grandpa Bill loved his grandkids most of all. There was rarely a conversation with him that didn’t involve a story, bragging about their accomplishments. Bill lived for Wednesday nights with the gang, Thursday euchre games, and a cold Stag, while watching the Cardinal game. He will be remembered for his curly hair, booming voice, and love for his wife, Janet’s, desserts. Bill will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Stumpf; and his mother and stepfather, Hanella J. (Vernon), nee Schwaegel, Huwer.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Janet, nee Gundlach, Stumpf, whom he married on December 1, 1973;
two daughters, Melissa (Ryan) Collins and Julie (Shawn) Spruill;
one son, Matt (Nikki) Stumpf;
six grandchildren, Kylee, Wesley, Samantha, Ellie, Brynlee and Hayden;
five brothers and sisters, Bob Stumpf, Nancy Lorentzen, Wayne (Lori) Stumpf, Paul (Ramona) Stumpf, and Alice (Jim) Adden;
his in-laws, Joe Gundlach, Richard (Kathy) Gundlach, and Tom Gundlach;
and many nieces and nephews.

Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

A celebration of life will be held in Bill’s memory beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Karban’s Knotty Pines, in Waterloo, IL.

Cousin Janet, I have not spoken with you in so long. I know the loss you are feeling right now. I too lost the love of my life in February. I will continue to pray for you and your family to absorb all of the love that is being sent your way! Mom and Dad always spoke very highly of the efforts you and Bill put into your family and farm! God Bless you all!

So so sorry to hear about Uncle Bill's passing... our condolences to the rest of our family. He was such a hard working and sacrificing man... I have such neat memories of him showing us around the farm as kids, and even helping a breeched calf be born. He was always boisterous... I was grateful to get to spend time with him and Aunt Janet on our Alaska trip, where he tried to teach me a card game, and their visit to Las Vegas for NYE in 2019, where we hit the strip and even went hiking. He will be missed for sure... Love you all...
