William J. Rice Jr., 86, of Belleville, IL, born December 26, 1935, in East St. Louis, IL, died Sunday, April 24, 2022, at St. Paul’s Retirement Community, Belleville, IL.

Mr. Rice held a bachelor’s degree from Washington University, St. Louis, MO, and worked as a certified public accountant for Olin Corporation before his retirement.  He was a member of St. Henry’s Parish, Belleville, IL, served as a church trustee and was a member of the pastoral council at the church.  Bill loved to study the stock market and tuning in to CNBC.  He was a fan of all sports but especially the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharol, nee Sanders, Rice, who died on April 2, 2010; and his parents, William J. Sr. and Ruby K., nee Bracy, Rice.

Surviving are his children, Kevin (Denise) Rice of Bartow, FL, Alison (Harvey Phillips) Rice of Jacksonville, FL, Patrick (Corina) Rice of Jacksonville, FL, Karla (Dieter) Ambos of St. Louis, MO, Laurie (Michael) Boswell of Belleville, IL, Thomas (Beth Kamp) Veath of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren, Katherine (Marco) Arce, Elizabeth Boswell, Emily (Sam) Holiday, Blake Veath, Grant Veath, Riley Phillips, and Ethan Rice; two great-granddaughters, Hannah Lane and Chloe Rice; a sister, Lynn (Mark) Foster; and a niece, Meredith (Chris) Carl.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, or to the Diabetes Association.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation:  Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2022, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2022, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Ken York officiating.

Burial will be at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.

My sincere sympathy and prayers to the family of Bill Rice. Bill was a good friend and neighbor to all of us. He will be remembered for his friendliness and kindness and the years of dedication as treasurer of our Hickory Bend Association. I am glad I got to serve with him for many years on the board.
